First Time Passports
To secure a new passport in Atlanta, you must appear in person at one of 20 passport acceptance agents located at post offices or court houses in the Greater Atlanta area. Passports are not issued in Atlanta. The nearest regional passport agencies are located in New Orleans, Miami, and Washington DC.
When you make your personal appearance before an acceptance agent to secure your passport, you will be required to present an original or certified birth certificate
-- hospital birth certificates are not acceptable; two identical passport photos (Use a passport photographer you can find in the yellow pages under "Passport Photographers" -- homemade passport photos are usually rejected); a completed-but-not-signed DS-11, an application for a new passport; and your passport application fee of $97.
The passport acceptance agent will witness you sign the DS-11. They also check your passport photos to insure that you are the person in the photos, verify you have the correct birth certificate, identify you by checking your driver's license (must have been issued at least six months prior), and collect the fee payable $30 to the passport acceptance agent and $127 payable to the US State Department. If you pay by check, do not use a starter check without your name printed on the check and place your date of birth on the memo line of the check.
If you need your passport in a rush, you can pay an extra $60 and receive it back within about two weeks. If you need a quick passport, a passport expeditor such as A Briggs can assist you. When you need an emergency passport in the Atlanta area, A Briggs can obtain it as quickly as one day. If you need a new passport or a passport renewal within two weeks, you can also make an appointment at the New Orleans, Miami or Washington Passport Agency by calling 1-877-487-2778.

Passport Renewals
If you need a passport renewal, you do not need to appear before a passport acceptance agent. Simply follow the renew passport instructions on the DS-82 form entitled "Application for Passport by Mail."
