Need a Second US Passport?

Persons making frequent international trips sometimes need a second passport. The most common reason for needing a second passport is that travelers must submit their passport to an embassy to secure a visa for travel to that country, however the person may need his/her passport to travel to another country while the visa application is being processed. In such circumstances, the passport agency will issue a second limited passport (sometimes called a "duplicate passport") for a period of time -- usually two years.

There are three steps to acquiring a Second US Passport.

Passport Submission Requirements:
• New Second Passport: You must submit your current 10-year passport in order to apply for a second passport.
• Extend Existing Second Passport: You must submit your current 10-year passport and your current second passport.
A Briggs will return your current 10-year passport along with your new, second passport.

Passport Photos |
|
You will be required to submit two (2) identical passport photographs. Photographs must be taken by a passport photographer. Homemade photos are not acceptable and most often cause a delay in passport issuance.

DS-82 Application |
|
Click on the link at the bottom of this section (Section C) to create your DS-82 Application for US Passport by Mail.
You will be prompted to complete the form. You must answer every question as completely as possible.
After you answer all questions, click on the “Create Form” button at the bottom of the page. If there are no errors on the form, your completed DS-82 Application for US Passport by Mail will appear.
Print all pages of the DS-82 Application for US Passport by Mail form (on white 8.5" x 11" paper only), including the instructions, so that each page is printed on one side of the paper. Do not print on both sides of any sheet of paper.
US Passport applicants may electronically submit their personal information and then print the completed form. This system generates a 2D bar code (required for all applications submitted by hand carry, the submission method used by A Briggs) on the printed form. This 2D barcode enables the information to be reproduced electronically. All information is captured on a secure U.S. Department of State server and is deleted once the form is printed. Please note the US Passport Office will not accept hand carry applications without the 2D barcode.

You must sign the completed DS-82 Application for US Passport by Mail on the last page in either blue or black ink.

A check or money order made payable to "U.S. Department of State" for $135. This fee may also be paid online via credit card when filling out our online order form below.
NOTE: If paying by check:
Please include your date of birth on the memo line of the check. Starter checks for new bank accounts are NOT acceptable.
Although it is recommended that your check have your name pre-printed on it, if submitting a business check or someone else's check, make sure to include your name, address and date of birth on the check. Money orders must contain your information on them.

Letter of Authorization |
|
A letter of Authorization gives A Briggs the authority to submit your application and pick-up your passport when issued. We are only allowed to submit a certain number of passports each day, and the additional names on the additional authorization letters are for our sister companies under whose name we may submit your application in order to provide the fastest available service.
NOTE: Each copy MUST contain your original signature preferably in Blue Ink. Fax or photo copies of your signature are NOT acceptable - both letters must contain original signatures.

Proof of Departure |
|
Submit a copy of your computer-generated itinerary or your ticket from an airline, travel agency, or online booking agency showing your departure from the U.S. FAX or photocopies are acceptable.

Drivers License |
|
A high quality photocopy of your driver’s license increased to 200% size. The text must be clearly legible.
It is imperative that the photocopy is clear. Illegible photocopies will not be accepted and are the most common reason for delay in issuance.

Letter of Explanation |
|
A personal letter of explanation addressed to the U.S. Passport Services explaining exactly why you are requesting a second passport must be submitted. Sign the letter the same way you signed the Application for Passport by Mail: DS-82 and include your date of birth next to your signature.

The Online Order Form must be completed. Please print two copies of the confirmation page. Include one copy in the A Briggs envelope and keep one copy for your records.
The Online Order Form will prompt you for payment method. You may pay the A Briggs fees online with a credit card or enclose a personal or business check or money order.
Processing times are business days and do not include shipping time. Keep this in mind when placing your order. Orders are filled based on departure date. For example, a traveler leaving in 10 days that selects 1 to 4 day service may experience fulfillment times of up to 6 days including shipping.

Do NOT ship "First Overnight." This will delay the delivery of your package.

Note: Additional shipping costs must be charged to a credit card for each package shipped to an international destination and the following locations: Alaska, Hawaii, and all U.S. Territories.
Saturday Delivery is an additional $14 when available to US destinations.
