A valid passport and visa are required to enter Bhutan. Visa requests are approved by the Bhutan Foreign Ministry in Thimphu, and may be applied for directly by the traveler or through a licensed tour operator and travel agent. All travelers must obtain clearance from Thimphu prior to entry. Upon entry, immigration authorities will stamp a visa into your passport. You will be required to provide passport sized photographs along with a $20 visa fee. Visas are issued for a 14 day period. Extensions are available in Thimphu for an additional cost.
